So I whipped up a music video for Arms Open, a ballad very close to my heart. I produced the video myself at home. To kick off 2012, amongst many other deep and meaningful projects, I decided that it was time the world saw the inside of my lounge room. Pretty normal expectation. So in order to achieve this I figured I should add a little more to the video footage than just my couch, piano, TV etc. Although furniture collectively insisted they didn't need any extra 'props' I was of the mind that a few videos of me singing some acapella originals and covers might spice things up a little. So at the risk of upstaging the curtains and offending the couch, I filmed Amazing Grace a week or so ago. That was a moderate success so yesterday I did a video of British Skies my original song describing the wonder of waiting for the first snowfall (I left out the bit about trudging through the sludge the next day). Ok so I had to do it, I had to write a blog on making a music video! (To activate the links click 'read more'). When you are an independent artist, you wear a lot of hats! Technically I wear none, as I have an odd shaped head, but you get the drift. Every project from recording and production, branding, web design and functionality, seo, designing photo shoots and making a music video - you are the one that is responsible for creating the vision and steering the ship through the icy waters to make sure it actually gets there. It means when you have next to no budget you need to be particuarly clever about who you work with and where you find them. Sometimes it all comes up millhouse, but like everything in life...sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board and start again.
